Boat Hire

We have a number of different types of boat that are available for members to hire that are suitable for a range of ages and abilities .  All boats can be booked, subject to availability,  for either a full or half day on a weekend or on a mid week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) evening via our website.  If you are not sure which boat is right for you, talk to one of our friendly instructors who will be happy to advise you.

• Optimist

Hire charges : Full day £10.00, Half day £5.00, Midweek evening £5.00 The Optimist, sometime called an 'Opti' or 'Oppy' is a very small, single-handed boat designed specifically for young people under the age of 16 to learn to sail. It is characterized by its bathtub-like shape, flat bottom, and a single, four-sided sail, making it very stable and hard to capsize compared to other boats. As the world's most popular youth racing class, it is built to strict standards to ensure a level playing field, with over 150,000 in use across 120 countries. • RS Tera

Hire charges : Full day £10.00, Half day £5.00, Midweek evening £5.00 The RS Tera is a modern, single-person plastic boat designed to introduce children and teenagers to sailing in a fun and addictive way. It is extremely robust and low-maintenance, featuring self-draining cockpits and high, padded horizontal poles for safety. With two different sail sizes available, the boat easily adapts for novices learning the basics or experienced teenagers competing in high-level racing. You can find out more about the class here

• Topper

Hire charges : Full day £10.00, Half day £5.00, Midweek evening £5.00 The Topper is a small, 11-foot plastic sailing boat designed for one person, often used by teenagers and adults to learn the basics of sailing. It is widely recognized for its incredible durability and simple design, making it a popular choice in sailing schools because it can handle bumps and is easy to set up. The boat is light enough that if it tips over, a young sailor can easily flip it back upright and continue sailing. You can find out more about the class here

• Pico

Hire charges : Full day £8.00, Half day £4.00, Midweek evening £4.00 The Pico is a small, durable plastic sailboat designed specifically for beginners and children to learn how to sail safely. It features a spacious open seating area, often called a cockpit, that drains itself, and it is very stable in the water, making it hard to accidentally turn over. The boat can be easily sailed by one person or shared by two, and its simple setup allows users to get on the water quickly. • RS Feva

Hire charges : Full day £20.00, Half day £10.00, Midweek evening £10.00 The RS Feva is a modern, small two-person sailboat designed for teenagers and young adults to learn advanced skills in a manageable way. Built from durable, low-maintenance plastic, it is widely used by clubs for training and racing because it is stable yet responsive in the wind. • ILCA

Hire charges : Full day £15.00, Half day £7.50, Midweek evening £7.50 The ILCA dinghy (formerly known as the Laser) is the world's most popular single-handed sailboat, designed to be operated by one person. It is a "one-design" boat, meaning all boats are built identically to ensure that competition is won by the sailor's skill, technique, and athleticism rather than by equipment advantages. Because of its simplicity, light weight, and interchangeable parts, it is a versatile craft widely used for both casual recreation and elite Olympic racing. • Laser 2000

Hire charge : Full day £30.00, Half day £15.00, Midweek evening £15.00 The Laser 2000 is a versatile, two-person boat designed for stability and easy handling, making it a popular choice for both beginners learning to sail and families looking for recreational fun. It features a modern design with a spacious, self-draining cockpit that keeps occupants comfortable and quickly empties water if the boat tips over.
