We have reached the halfway point in the first of our Thursday evening series, with a fantastic 21 different competitors taking part in six evenings so far. As a reminder, we count the first race on a Thursday for the series with discards set at 25% of races (rounded up); if conditions allow (and everyone is up for it!) a second race may be run on the evening, although the result of this is more for bragging rights on the night and does not count towards the series.
Of the six races to count so far we have had five different members taking first place on the night, showing the breadth of sailing talent we have at the club. However, Emily Dengate is showing how important consistency is, both in results on the water and the benefit of racing every week to avoid racking up lots of DNC's. Her results so far (and after two discards which were both 3rds!) of 1 * 1st and 3 * 2nd puts her on 7 points. Dave Speddings is second on 32 points and Steve Spencer is third on 43 points. As ever, the individual race and full series results are available in the Results section of the website.
Alongside the racing at the front the fleet there have been other aspects on the series that have been brilliant to see. Some of our younger members such as Fred, Dexter and both Olivia's have been out on the water gaining valuable experience and achieving some great results. We've also had a students from the University of Sheffield who have raced in both their Firefly's and club ILCAs.
There are still another 6 weeks to go, the big question is will anyone step up their game to take Emily on?
