Upcoming RYA First Aid and Safety Boat Courses

Published 11:38am on 12 May 2026

We have two RYA courses coming up which are open to both members and non members providing a great way to further develop skills, both on and off the water.  You can find out more about these courses, including pricing, availability and book your place through the Calendar section of our website.

RYA First Aid Course (1 Day - 16 May)

Accidents happen when you least expect them.  Thankfully serious incidents onboard are rare but getting to grips with basic first aid will ensure that everyone's in good hands.  Administering first aid at sea or even just afloat is very different to doing so on land and because of this, the RYA First Aid course has been specifically developed for water users.  A little bit of knowledge is useful for all crew members and ideally everyone should do the course. It can be very difficult for just one person to navigate, helm, call for help and resuscitate at the same time!

The one-day classroom course is taught by instructors with considerable boating experience. Topics include CPR combined with drowning protocol, bleeding, head injuries, cold water shock and hypothermia, first aid kits, and requesting medical advice or assistance by marine radio.  The RYA First Aid Book is provided to everyone doing an RYA First Aid course. With detailed information, clear visual aids and a section dedicated to marine specific content, its a valuable resource for all water users.

RYA Safety Boat Course (2 Days - 18/19 July)

The RYA Safety Boat course is a 2-day programme designed for confident powerboat drivers (you must be over 16 years old and hold a RYA Power Boat level 2 certificate) who want to expand their skills beyond basic boat handling. Building on your existing knowledge, you will gain the competence to manage safety cover for fleets of dinghies, windsurfers, canoes, kayaks and other craft, making you an essential part of any watersports team.  It is also a required qualification for those working towards becoming an RYA Senior Instructor.

Delivered by experienced instructors, this course equips you with the skills to deal with a variety of on-water situations, including : advanced boat handling, rescue techniques for rescuing dinghies, windsurfers, and kayaks/canoes, towing, fleet management and mark laying, safety and logistics.
