Smooth Sailing Ahead : Class of 2026 complete their RYA Level 1 & 2 course

Published 2:49pm on 28 Sep 2026

Between May and July, we ran our 13-week RYA Level 1 & 2 course, taking sailors through Level 1 Start Sailing and Level 2 Basic Skills.

Taking part were Bel, Georgina, Matt, Alice, Andy, Anna, Antony, Colin, Konrad, Oscar, Lech, Rebecca, Ruben, Richard, Ruth, Sam, Tom and Austin, supported by PVR, Pete Hallitt, Nick, Ray, Nathan, Richard, Kathryn, Seb and Craig.

Across the weeks we had pretty much every type of weather Winscar could offer. It was hot, it was cold, there was too much wind, too little wind but also plenty of weeks with just the right amount of wind!

Whatever the weather, there was always plenty of learning, plenty of laughs and a really good sense of camaraderie within the group. From those first sessions getting used to the boats and the basics of sailing, through to tacking, gybing, capsize recovery and sailing more independently, it was great to see everyones confidence and ability develop week by week.

The best part, though, is seeing people discover sailing, enjoy it and then become part of Pennine Sailing Club.

A huge thank you to everyone who instructed, helped and took part. It was a brilliant 13 weeks and a real pleasure to see the group progress, enjoy themselves and become part of the club.
