It's certainly been a summer to remember, with weather conditions that have given our members plenty of reason to get out on the water - whether it be to learn, improve their skills, race or just find a way to cool down! Whilst the way that evenings are starting to draw are one indication that Summer is coming to an end, the thing that really gives it away is the fact that our Late Summer Sunday and Late Summer Thursday Evening Series have finished.
They have both been fantastic series with great competition at many levels, from those seasoned racers fighting it out at the front of the fleet through to those members who have been building on the skills they have learnt having successfully completed their RYA L1/2 or the RYA L3/Start Racing course. It was also great to see the number of different classes of boat on the water, demonstrating that whatever your skill and fitness levels are there is a boat to suit.
The Late Summer Sunday series saw 33 members competing in 21 races over the 7 weeks. Well done to Pete Crossley who led the way in his 4.2mR followed by Pete Hallitt in his ILCA and then John Hollis in his Streaker.
36 different members competing over 10 weeks in the Late Summer Thursday Evening Series and whilst only 1 race to count plenty of weeks when the conditions meant the opportunity to have a second race 'for fun'. Well done to Emily Dengate who had clear blue Winscar water between her and the rest of the fleet. It was brilliant to see one of our longstanding members Ann Whitfield back out on the water in her Scorpion, crewed by John Hollis, coming second followed by Pete Hallitt. As ever all the results are on the website in the usual place.
None of this would have been possible without members doing their share of duties and so we should all thank the 26 different members who did one or more duties through this period with a particular shout out to two of our newer members, Maggie Horn and Paul Jones for doing more than their fair share of duties in this period.
