Pennine SC at the RYA Eric Twiname Junior Championships

Published 4:59pm on 5 May 2026

Over the May Bank Holiday weekend aspiring young sailors from across the UK got together at Rutland Sailing Club to compete for honours in British Sailing Pathway classes while also representing their Region or Home Country at the RYA Eric Twiname Junior Championships.  The event provides a fantastic learning environment of camaraderie, competition and a variety of courses for young sailors to learn and develop their racing skills and get valuable experience of bigger events.

Well done to Fraser who came 25th after 11 races in the Optimist class and helping the the North region come 2nd in 'Combined Dinghy Classes' and 3rd in 'Dinghies and Windsurfer'.

If you have the next Ben Anslie (5 Olympic medals - 4 gold and 1 silver) or Hannah Mills (3 Olympic medals - 2 gold and 1 silver), both of whom started out like Fraser in an Optimist, then the event should again be over the bank holiday weekend of 1st to 3rd May.  Start practising now and keep an eye on the RYA website https://www.rya.org.uk/ at the start of 2027 for the details!
